Wool Hub for Research & Innovation

The Wool Hub for Research & Innovation, hosted by the Circular Bioeconomy Cluster supports innovation, research, and development in the Irish-grown wool sector.

Its aim is to promote indigenous, sustainable wool-based products and provide expertise and guidance to farmers, SMEs, and enterprises seeking to make the best use of this valuable natural resource.

Backed by findings from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s 2022 report on market opportunities for Irish wool, the Hub recognises wool’s potential across sectors including horticulture, packaging, insulation, textiles, cosmetics, and composites.

Currently, wool is an undervalued by-product of lamb production. The Wool Hub seeks to bridge the gap between idea and execution through:

• Collaborative R&D partnerships

• Mentoring and knowledge-sharing

• Access to funding and innovation supports

By enhancing the value and visibility of Irish wool, the Wool Hub aims to strengthen the entire wool value chain.

Aligned with the Irish Grown Wool Council, this initiative represents a unique opportunity to advance research, design, and processing innovation and to build a stronger, sustainable future for Ireland’s wool industry.
