We develop and promote the circular bioeconomy
across the South-West region

The Circular Bioeconomy Cluster South West develops and promotes the circular bioeconomy across Kerry and Cork

In 2021, Munster Technological University launched a new cluster to accelerate momentum of the growing circular bioeconomy in South-West Ireland.

Our aim is to build a thriving ecosystem of industry, SMEs, researchers, and government to create a bio-based economy and support enterprise profit through business opportunities and promotion. The cluster will focus on the aspects of innovation where the region excels in, namely Waste-to-Value and Marine.

The shift to a sustainable low carbon circular bioeconomy represents a business opportunity of USD $7.7 trillion. In this economy biological resources are renewable, sustainably managed, recovered and reused as much as possible, therefore creating new bio-based products and replacing fossil-based conventional materials.

With an expected 1 million jobs in the European bioeconomy by 2030, now is the time for enterprises, researchers, industry and investors to demonstrate their ingenuity and work with the cluster to build the partnerships needed for scale.
